History of our school

Prior to the forming of Chifley College in 2001, our school was known as Shalvey High School and was established in 1975 as a comprehensive Year 7-12 high school.

Chifley College was established in 2001 as the first multi-campus secondary college in New South Wales and has brought many benefits for students and families in the local community.

Chifley College is named after a great Australian, Ben Chifley, Prime Minister of Australia from 1945-1949 who epitomises the hopes and aspirations we all hold for every student who enters the College – value education, and use it to achieve your life’s goals.

The five original Mt Druitt schools, Bidwill High, Dunheved High, Mt Druitt High, Shalvey High and Whalan High were amalgamated to form a multi campus college now known as Chifley College.

Chifley College is comprised of Dunheved Campus, Mt Druitt Campus and Shalvey Campus all Years 7 to 10, Bidwill Campus - Years 7 to 12 and the Senior Campus (previously Whalan Campus) - Years 11 to 12.  The Senior Campus moved to its present location in North Parade, Mt Druitt (beside Mt Druitt TAFE) in 2002.  The Senior Campus facilities and buildings are amongst the most modern and innovative of any school in the state and are an asset to the Mt Druitt district and all of Western Sydney.

The former Whalan High site on Luxford Road will be the site of new Aboriginal Centre for Excellence in Western Sydney which is due to open in late 2018.   Each of the Chifley College campuses, still on their original sites, have been extensively upgraded with new facilities since the creation of the college in 2000.

Students come from a large number of feeder primary schools.  In 2017, Chifley College had students from 23 main primary schools.

Chifley College encompasses an area of significant Aboriginal presence in Western Sydney.  Approximately 18% of Chifley College enrolments are Aboriginal students. The College embraces a multicultural student population with Pacific Islander students comprising approximately 18% of our enrolments.
