Haka Warriors

A group of our Young Pasifika boys were chosen to take part in Haka Warriors - a new program run by PCYC Blacktown.

The program uses the haka to promote unity, respect, self-worth and identity. Throughout their time in the program we have seen the boys grow into great young leaders and become part of a brotherhood with their peers.

Boys from 5 different high schools in Western Sydney gathered in December 2019 at the Haka Warriors Competition to showcase the pride of the pacific through haka. We’re incredibly proud of our students for what they brought to the stage and we look forward to seeing them grow from here.

Thank you to PCYC Blacktown for providing our students with the opportunity to demonstrate pride, passion and purpose.

Grease production

Our Stage 5 Dance and Drama students put on a performance of ‘Grease’ at the end of November. There were two successful shows on the day - one for our partner primary schools, and another in the evening for our families, friends and school staff. The audience loved the performance and were impressed by the exceptional acting by the drama students and the clever choreography performed by the dance students.

Our students worked especially hard to put on the production. On Friday afternoons, the cast stayed at school for after school rehearsals and spent months preparing for showtime! The dance students worked collaboratively to choreograph the dances and design their costumes. The drama students studied their characters, rehearsed the scenes and also designed their costumes. The backstage crew composed the sound effects, and stage backgrounds. Both classes, designed the school hall and stage, to transform it to the famous Rydell High.

Well done to Dance and Drama teachers, Miss Harvey and Ms Vozic who, are to be commended on the time and effort they put into the making of the play. It would not have been the success it was without them

Shalvey Bre(a)d

Throughout 2019, students from CCSC worked with Story Factory to create their latest project, Shalvey Bre(a)d.

The project showcases the positive aspects of Shalvey and other suburbs across Mt Druitt through creative writing, photography and digital storytelling.

Students officially launched the project in November where staff, students and community had the opportunity to view the amazing work our students have produced.

ChangeFest 2019

Our Aboriginal Dance Group proudly performed at Kimberwalli for the Community Day and Day One of ChangeFest 2019.

ChangeFest is a gathering of people intent on making change in their communities. It’s a dynamic opportunity to learn, plan, collaborate and progress your community’s agenda for change.

They welcomed people from across the country to Mt Druitt, with a welcome and traditional dances.

Our school captains Atoc and Amuor joined as school ambassadors at the event which promoted positive change in the wider Mt Druitt community.

Well done to our students who made connections with people who travelled from many places, near and far, to be part of the gathering of people intent on making change in our communities.
